What is an Ayurvedic Cleanse?
Ayurvedic cleansing method, focuses on a monodiet (kitchari), combining with powerful detoxifying and rejuvenating spices, herbs and Ghee. This style of detox is typically less intense than various other cleansing approaches and is generally safer for a wide array of body types and imbalances.
However, an Ayurvedic cleanse often brings chronic imbalances into surface, allowing them to be eliminated. This process enables our bodies heal and rejuvenate.
Understanding Your Cleanse Journey
During the second or third day of a cleanse, it’s common to notice changes in your body and to have questions about what you can eat, how you feel, and what to expect. Ayurveda teaches us that cleansing is not only a physical process, but also an energetic and emotional one. As the body begins to reset, you may find yourself slowing down, craving simplicity, and seeking deeper rest.
Can I eat fruits?
Short answer: No.
Cooked foods digest very differently from raw fruits. If you experience gut issues, you may include cooked fruits, especially stone fruits, with warming spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. Cinnamon, in particular, helps regulate insulin levels.
Eating fruits on an empty stomach or in the evening can often lead to headaches or lightness because it increases Vata Dosha.
Can I have snacks?
Short answer: No.
Snacking between meals can be like pouring water on your Agni (digestive fire), especially if you’re healing your gut.
Frequent snacking disrupts the digestive rhythm and can create a habit of skipping warm, cooked meals or eating at irregular times.
Ayurvedic and Indian cooking is often described as simple, yet it’s a slow and layered art form. Meals are crafted with patience, each spice and ingredient added in sequence to build balance and depth.
In my own kitchen, I spend about three to four hours a day cooking for myself and my family. It’s a meditative process that nourishes far beyond the plate.
I plan to share some of these recipes on our blog. You’ll be able to explore the beauty of cooking with intention, where food becomes medicine, and the kitchen becomes a space for healing.
The Art of Ayurvedic Cooking
Feeling tired during a cleanse is not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign that your body is ready to rest deeply. The cleansing process naturally slows the system, inviting you to release stimulation and tension. Try turning off electronic devices for a few hours each day. Rest in the afternoon if you can, and aim to sleep by 9 PM.
This rest allows Vata and Pitta to settle so that Kapha can rise, nourishing tissues, calming the nervous system, and supporting cellular repair. When the mind is overstimulated, digestion becomes irregular, and the body struggles to release waste or absorb nutrients properly.
The Need for Rest
f.a.q
-
The primary goals are to:
Enhance digestion
Reduce inflammation
Eliminate Ama (toxic waste)
Soothe Vata energy (stress, anxiety, overthinking, restlessness)
Cleanse and sharpen your senses
-
Please avoid:
Coffee
Alcohol
Processed foods
Dairy
Sugar
Baked goods
-
Wake up by 6 AM
Go to bed by 10 PM
This aligns your body with the circadian rhythm, supporting digestion, nutrient absorption, and detoxification while you sleep.
-
Take 1–2 teaspoons of ghee in the morning with hot water.
Ghee is highly valued in Ayurveda as it nourishes tissues, lubricates the gut, improves absorption of nutrients, balances digestive fire (Agni), and supports detoxification.
It also has anti-inflammatory properties and provides steady energy throughout the day.
-
Boil half teaspoon of Churna in glass of hot water.
Strain and drink 30 minutes before bedtime.
Churna is formulated to balance acidity, reduce gas and bloating, and support the gut lining.
It calms the digestive system at night, making it easier for the body to reset and restore.
